The Lakeland Horticultural Society gardens at Holehird are on a ten acre fellside site with natural rock gardens on Coniston grit outcrops which makes parts of them perfect for growing Alpine plants.
There are two Alpine Houses open to the public, one a display house erected in 2000 (pictured right) and one a Victorian house with a tufa wall (below).  
As well as some recently constructed scree beds there are well established screes, stone troughs and raised beds.
